UNITED NATIONS Tyus Bowser Jersey , March 24 (Xinhua) -- UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Angela Kane is going to step down, said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in a statement issued Tuesday.


"Ms. Kane has made a crucial contribution to the collective endeavor of the UN and its Member States, as well as the civil society, to advance both the disarmament and non-proliferation agenda and the cause of ridding the world of the scourge of chemical weapons Marlon Humphrey Jersey ," UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq told a daily briefing.


Angela Kane of Germany assumed the position of High Representative for Disarmament Affairs in March 2012. She is responsible for providing the secretary-general with advice on arms control, non-proliferation and related security matters.


No reason for her resignation has been given.


The UN chief has designated Kim Won-soo as acting high representative for disarmament affairs.


Kim took up his current position as Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the secretary-general in September 2013.
