Get Fit with the Droid, in Just 5 Apps!
So, you might be wondering just how the Droid can help you get fit, the answer is quite simple really. We all get caught up in our day to day routines, sometimes we don't have time to think about lifting weights or doing cardiovascular exercise! That's where the Droid comes in, certain apps have been created to help keep track of your workouts, some even have the capability to chart your progress by using Google Charts, these apps have all sorts of features to get you motivated and keep you on track with your fitness goals! In this article I will list five of the top rated fitness applications and hopefully give some insight on how to use them. Please note that you will need a Motorola Droid to follow this guide.

To start off with is a particularly useful application for joggers and runners - Buddy Runner
When started Buddy Runner will automatically calculate where you are by using Droid's GPS capabilities, to start the application simply press Start, once done Buddy Runner will monitor your position and keep track of where you have ran by using Google Maps, It will save your progress in the History tab, this is useful for keeping track of certain roughts and distances, and particularly useful for monitoring how much you have ran in say a week or a month time.


Next an extremely useful application for achieving your workout goals and a personal favorite - DroidFit
DroidFit is a great application for workouts of ALL types, it allows you to set weekly routines in which you can choose to be reminded of and are completely customizable, DroidFit is none other than awesome simply for the fact that it will SHOW you how to do the workouts mentioned in the application. It will allow you to pick from various muscles in the body and decide which you want to enhance and will then give a detailed image to show the exercise in motion, you can then decide to add the workout to your daily routine, Body stats are monitored and charted using Google Charts and the app log's every exercise done. This is a GREAT application and a must have for Fitness buffs!


Next is an application for workouts of all types Similar to the app DroidFit - Workout Buddy
This is a great application for keeping you motivated! Workout Buddy keeps track of each and every exercise that you do, and saves the number of sets and reps done for each task. This can be VERY useful when attempting to start at a lower number of reps and gauge yourself to a higher amount, weight, BMI, and body fat percentage can be inserted for keeping track of your body stats and telling you just how much of an impact you are making on yourself! Workout types include, Cardio, Abs, Arm, Back, Chest, Legs, Shoulder, and various other types of workouts. Workout Buddy can also be useful in gaining knowledge on types of exercise you may not have known about otherwise. Some people choose Workout Buddy over DroidFit for the fact that it is simple however that is up to you to decide.


Also, a good app for keeping track of calories, fat and other nutritional information - Absolute Fitness
Absolute Fitness is an extensive food and exercise app, that gives you the option to add custom foods to your liking, this app gives nutritional information on calories and fat and information on essential vitamins and minerals. You can set your profile information based on your specific body type and set a dietary goal for helping to lose weight and be healthy. Absolute Fitness also creates charts to track your progress over periods of time and let you know if you're doing things right!


Another must have is basically a To-Do list but can help with reminding you of your goals - Astrid Task
Astrid Task not only helps with working out but also can remind you of certain task that you may have forgotten otherwise. At times, I use Astrid Task to remind me of my daily workouts instead of actually opening the other previously mentioned app just for the fact that I can be doing anything and get a notification telling me "Maby it's time to do one hour workout" you can set Astrid to give random reminders or manually set times. Adding task is as simple as adding a new contact, at the bottom of the application you will see "Add a new task" from there, simply type in various information on the task and your ready to go!


All in all these is some great Apps, it could take a bit of time to learn them fully but trust me, they are well worth it. All mentioned apps can be found in the Android Market and are all FREE, it is wise to organize your folders to help better keep track of your apps.
