After an appearance at the French Open and a five-match run at the Aegon Classic, Blainville, Quebecs Aleksandra Wozniak reflects on her play and her preparation for Roland Garros in her personal blog on RDS. Custom Falcons Jerseys .ca and TSN.ca. The last few weeks have been hectic between my participation at Roland Garros and my debut this Tuesday at Wimbledon. It was a heartbreaking match against Sorana Cirstea at the French Open about two weeks ago. Its been awhile since I found myself in a situation like that. I lost the match by a hair after being at match point. Against the 26th-seed in the tournament, a player who hits very hard, its already promised to be difficult. I played a very good game until I dropped the second set and it has been a little hard to get over it eventually. I rather started playing a little too defensively and it let her take the lead and I dropped points. I made too many mistakes in the third set and its been difficult for me after the meeting. But its time to turn the page quickly to tackle the season on grass. I trained with artificial turf on the site of Roland Garros and made the adjustments necessary to make the transition from clay to grass, which is not easy because its a completely different game. Balls move faster, points come quicker with up to three exchanges, and it is rare that there are more than that. It was necessary to modify some aspects of my game accordingly. To put these adjustments into practice, I flew to Birmingham where I had an excellent tournament. I played five big matches, including two in qualifying. My progress was stopped, however, in the third round by former Wimbledon semi-finalist, Kirsten Flipkens. I won the first set 6-1 and was leading the second 3-1, but Flipkens came back strong and served well. She played better in the third set than I did. While she was aggressive, I struggled with my games and was fighting shots. Flipkens is especially difficult to play on grass because of the way she can slice and her net play, so its no surprise that she went as far as she did at Wimbledon in 2013. Still, it was a good tournament for me and there was a lot to be gained from it. Little by little, Im improving in the rankings. Im up to 118th in the world, which is an improvement of 17 places since the last rankings. My coach, Nathalie Tauziat, also said she likes the progress in my game that shes noticed since the beginning of this European swing at the Cagnes-sur-Mer tournament in France. Were continuing to move forward and this is encouraging. It just takes one good tournament run to accumulate points and keep propelling forward. Tomorrow (June 17), I have another opportunity to build on this momentum when I begin qualifying for the main draw at Wimbledon. I will face Renata Voracova, not a very well-known player, who is ranked 172nd in the world. Shes a regular doubles player on top of singles and loves to play at the net. Voracova loves to play on grass and Im going to have to dictate the pace from the start. Because the ball doesnt bounce as well on grass, Im going to have to keep low, legs bent, in anticipation of its movement. Qualification continues on Wednesday and Thursday. A woman amongst the men A little bit of a digression here on the recent news of Andy Murray hiring Amelie Mauresmo as his new coach. Its rare to see a woman in this position, especially in the ATP, because often, after their careers, female players spend time with their families. I think Murray picked Mauresmo with good reason. Shes a former Grand Slam champion (the Australian Open and Wimbledon) with lots of experience. He sees what she can provide, but this is a bit of a different approach. In my case, it was last year when I began training with a female coach after years of training with men. We get along well because Nathalie understands the emotions of a player. Their new partnership is a trial for the grass court season. Its difficult to find the right mix between the player and coach and theres always a period of adjustment. Chemistry wont be built in an instant. Murray will assess all of this after Wimbledon to see if the potential for a longer-term partnership is there. Deadrin Senat Jersey .m. on Friday. "Im excited," Fernandez said with a grin.KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Almost an hour had passed, and the postgame party had moved from the field to the Kansas City clubhouse, where victory champagne was once again flowing. Yet as sheets of rain fell at Kauffman Stadium, thousands of celebrating Royals fans refused to leave. They had waited 29 years to soak in moments like these. This is a special time in the city right now and theyre enjoying this as much as we are, winning pitcher James Shields said. This is the best atmosphere Ive ever been a part of.Alex Gordon hit a bases-clearing double in the first inning, Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas each homered and the wild-card Royals finished off a three-game sweep of the mighty Los Angeles Angels with an emphatic 8-3 victory Sunday night in the AL Division Series. The scrappy team with the unorthodox manager, popgun offence, dynamic defence and lights-out bullpen will open the AL Championship Series against the Orioles beginning Friday night in Baltimore. Kansas City went 4-3 against the Os this year.Ive never seen this group of kids so confident on the big stage, Royals manager Ned Yost said. Its really fun to see their development and watch them come into the post-season and just really take their game to the next level. The power-hitting Angels, 98-64 in the regular season, became the second team in the divisional era that began in 1969 to have the best record in the majors and get swept out of the playoffs, STATS said. In no small coincidence, the Royals dealt the same humiliating fate to the New York Yankees in the 1980 ALCS.Stalking around the mound amid an electric atmosphere, Shields lived up to his Big Game James billing. The Royals ace gave up homers to Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, but otherwise held in check a suddenly punchless Los Angeles lineupShields was helped, too, by diving grabs by centre fielder Lorenzo Cain on back-to-back plays. All told, the highest-scoring team in baseball managed six runs in the entire series.Anything happens in the playoffs, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. You dont go in with any badge saying you won the most games, and youre certainly not going to get any points for that going into the playoffs.Kansas City showcased great glovework in every game, especially by its fleet outfielders. In this one, Cains catches in the fifth inning preserved a five-run lead. The Royals coasted the rest of the way to their seventh straight post-season victory dating to Game 5 of the 1985 World Series, the last time they were in the playoffs. George Brett, the star of that team, watched from an upstairs suite and raised his arms when ace closer Greg Holland fanned Trout for the final out.We feel like we belong, Cain said, that we can play with anyone. Justin Bethel Falcons Jersey. The Royals are certainly proving it.Kansas City played a 12-inning thriller against Oakland in the wild-card game, and a pair of 11-inning games in Los Angeles before returning home to a raucous, adoring crowd.Trout staked his team to a first-inning lead, but Angels starter C.J. Wilson quickly got into trouble. The left-hander with the $16 million price tag this season gave up consecutive singles and a four-pitch walk in the bottom half to load the bases for Gordon, whose slicing two-out double gave Kansas City a 3-1 lead.Sensing the game already slipping away, Scioscia immediately marched to the mound and turned the game over to his bullpen. It didnt fare a whole lot better. The Royals kept the pressure on, and even plodding designated hitter Billy Butler got in on the act, stealing second base to another roar. It was his fifth career steal and first in two years, but it typified the way the Royals have been winning this post-season.Dazzling pitching, daring baserunning and some dogged determination. They were just up there trying to put the ball in play, Wilson said. Then they went into damage mode and started swinging for homers. Theyre hot right now. Thats what happens. After swiping seven bases and playing small-ball against the As, the club that hit the fewest homers in the regular season pounded out four long balls against Los Angeles.Moustakas hit the first of them in the 11th inning of the opener, Hosmer hit the second in the 11th inning the next night, and both of them went deep to finish off the sweep.Hosmers two-run shot came in the third inning. Moustakas connected in the fourth.By that point, the Angels a€” their high-priced offence having fizzled and pitching having failed them a€” were slumped over the railing of their dugout. They spent the final five innings bundled up against the October chill, periods of rain making their night miserable. But hardly putting a damper on thousands of Royals fans.Everyone knows how long its been since weve been in the post-season, and you can tell because of all these people out here, Hosmer said. Theyve got our backs on every pitch, and were feeding off the energy. To do this in front of our home crowd, it couldnt be any better than coming and celebrating with all these people out here.TRAINERS ROOMRoyals RHP Kelvin Herrera pitched a scoreless seventh inning. He left Thursday nights series opener after five pitches with a strained forearm.UP NEXTThe Orioles beat Detroit 2-1 on Sunday to finish off their series sweep. They are back in the ALCS for the first time since 1997.
