Knowing the right time to grab a tight end and when to keep waiting is key, as is your weekly strategy for defenses and even kickers.Tight end is deep, with more than 20 players that could realistically finish the season inside the top 10 at the position. However, there are a few sharp drops in talent that make it better to consider drafting tight ends based on tiers.The upper echelon is clear with Rob Gronkowski of New England, Travis Kelce of Kansas City and Zach Ertz of Philadelphia. In order to grab one of them, though, you need to be prepared to burn an early pick. Gronkowski offers upside that is head and shoulders above everyone else, but he also hasn't played a full season since 2011. Kelce is coming off back-to-back years with over 1,000 yards and 80-plus receptions, along with a career high eight TDs. He was locked in with Alex Smith, so the QB change to Patrick Mahomes could hurt his outlook. Zach Ertz has been a consistent threat with at least 70 catches and 800 yards in three straight seasons. He doubled his career high in TDs and further red zone attention could push him past Gronkowski and Kelce this year.The second tier has more uncertainty and not quite as much upside, but will still get you a "set it-and-forget it" type of player. Jimmy Graham switched from one great QB to probably the best in the game with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. He should continue to see a massive amount of red zone work but his production between the 20s will ultimately decide whether he's an elite weekly option this year or a TD-reliant back-end starter. Giants tight end Evan Engram took advantage of Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall injuries to turn in an impressive rookie season with 64 catches, 722 yards and six touchdowns. He could end up the second receiving option this season for New York.Tennessee's Delanie Walker has been as solid as they come over the past four years, especially in point-per-reception leagues. Carolina's Greg Olsen is coming off an injury-riddled season, but do not forget about the consistent TE1 production he provided in previous seasons. Minnesota's Kyle Rudolph should be one of Kirk Cousins' favorite targets, particularly in the red zone.If you wait on the TE position, you can target potential breakout candidates Trey Burton (Chicago), George Kittle (San Francisco) White Ryan Fitzpatrick Jersey , David Njoku (Cleveland) or O.J. Howard (Tampa Bay). Washington's oft-injured Jordan Reed is more name than game at this point but he could be a viable weapon for Alex Smith. The same can be said about Tyler Eifert in Cincinnati.Veterans Jared Cook (Oakland), Charles Clay (Buffalo), Ben Watson (New Orleans) and Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Jacksonville) may not be exciting, high upside selections, but they all could finish as starting-caliber options. Jack Doyle could as well in Indianapolis, if Eric Ebron doesn't eat into his upside. Streamers and deep leaguers that waited too long can also consider Ricky Seals-Jones (Arizona), Vance McDonald (Pittsburgh), Hayden Hurst (Baltimore), Nick Vannett (Seattle) and Austin Hooper (Atlanta). That's a good amount of upside for going almost 30 players deep at the position.DEFENSEStreaming defenses based on matchups is a strong method if you are active on the waiver wire. This is a great way to exploit weak offenses and cycle through available defenses on an as-needed basis. You should know going in that there is more legwork required if you go this route. It is also a great strategy that allows you to focus your draft capital on position players while waiting until the final rounds before investing in a defense. The Saints are home for two games against the Buccaneers (sans Jameis Winston) and the Browns to open the season. The Lions, Titans and Ravens also have attractive opening weekend matchups, though you may need to grab the latter two units before the last round.If you feel more comfortable riding one consistently good defense throughout the year regardless of matchup, you may be forced to consider taking a top option earlier than the 15th round. The Jaguars defense rose to prominence last season and they should be just as dominant in 2018. The Vikings and Eagles also have the personnel to stay among the league's elite fantasy defenses. The Texans should rebound after an injury-filled season and the Packers beefed up their defense with impact veteran and draft day additions. The Patriots are expected to rebound from a mediocre season to be a top 10 defense. Green Bay and New England are not quite in the same grouping as the others mentioned here and can be nabbed if you pass on the very elite defenses.KICKERSWhile it is often debated whether kickers should be eliminated from fantasy rosters, a majority of leagues still require owners to start one each week. There is too much variance from week to week in what becomes a gamble to determine which kicker to play. The best way to address the position is to wait until the last round before drafting one. Better yet, take a high upside position player in the last round and then cut someone from your roster prior to Week 1 for a kicker 鈥?if it's allowable under your league rules. Depending on when your draft occurs, this buys you more time with your roster before deciding who needs to go.When selecting your kicker for the year (or the week), a general rule is to focus on high-powered offenses. Yes, there will be outliers to this, but it will help you more often than not. If they are one of the teams interested in Hunt, they can certainly get him at an affordable rate on a “prove you can stay out of trouble” type deal.The other thing to bear in mind is new head coach Bruce Arians. He has no qualms about taking on troubled players and giving them second chances to become better men while continue to follow their dream. The most obvious example of this is Tyrann Mathieu.Arians spoke about this in his book, “The Quarterback Whisperer” where he goes into detail as to why he selected Mathieu in his first draft as a head coach and what makes him give these players opportunities;There is no excuse for Hunt’s actions. Could it have been avoided? Yes. Could he have walked away? Absolutely. Is it worse than what some other active players in the NFL have done in the past, including former teammate Tyreek Hill? No. That doesn’t make it better or okay in any way, but it also doesn’t mean Hunt should be banned forever.Heck, Joe Mixon was one of the most talked about running backs in the league this season and his video was far worse.No, the issue was that Hunt didn’t come clean when he had the chance. The Chiefs felt betrayed and they were lied to. That didn’t sit well and Hunt was out the door.Kareem Hunt improves the Buccaneers immediately. There is no debate there. The debate is whether or not Bucs fans would accept him, the public image of the team, and whether or not ownership would sign off on it.I get the feeling that if Arians wants him on the team, he’ll present a compelling case to GM Jason Licht - as well as ownership if need be - as to why the team needs him and what Arians himself will do to help Hunt become a better person, a better man, and get him any kind of help he may need so that this issue is simply a speed bump on the long career road of the former Toledo Rocket.If this subject was addressed with the previous staff in place, I would say there is no chance that the Bucs even sniff bringing in Hunt. He lined up all over the field and made quality plays to keep the chains moving throughout the afternoon. It’s unfortunate that hardly anyone else stepped up, but if the Panthers can keep using McCaffrey like they did against the Falcons the offense has the potential to be dangerous this season.Jarius Wright: Wright grabbed five catches for 62 yards and a touchdown this afternoon, and he also picked up several key first downs for the Panthers to keep the chains moving. He is a key asset on third down and is one of the best free agent pickups the Panthers have made in a long time. The Panthers finally have their “go-to guy” on third down Daryl Williams Jersey , and that will benefit the offense as the season progresses.D.J. Moore: Moore took his first career reception and turned it into an electrifying 51-yard touchdown reception that pulled the Panthers to within one score late in the fourth quarter. He almost hauled in the game-tying touchdown as time expired as well, but it just wasn’t meant to be. At any rate, we saw good things from Moore today and should continue to see them as he gets familiar with the speed of the NFL.Graham Gano: He buried a 54-yard field goal to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. And while it did get better, to some degree — offensively, the team never truly improved. But surprisingly enough keeping many of the coaches from the Lovie-days wasn’t even the biggest mistake(s) he made. In three seasons, Koetter managed to create drama, force people to pull their hair out Authentic Chandler Catanzaro Jersey , and seal his own fate. Here are three of Koetter’s biggest failures in three seasons as head coach of the Bucs.Season 1: Never developed a running gameThis phase of the game hurt many aspects of the Buccaneers potential explosiveness on offense. Koetter’s inability to adjust, see the difference in running backs, and sticking with Martin were the reasons why the Buccaneers running game failed in 2016 and was never ever able to recover throughout his tenure as head coach.Season 2: The poor handling of Winston’s injuryIn 2017, franchise quarterback Jameis Winston missed three games due to an injury to his throwing shoulder. He missed three games (Weeks 10-12) but many felt he should have been benched much sooner for it to heal.There were rumblings that Winston’s shoulder was actually injured during their Week 3 game against Minnesota. Winston struggled throwing the football as normally a plus 60-percent completion rate was barely getting over 50-percent in the following five of six games. It wasn’t until Week 9 against New Orleans where the shoulder was “aggravated” after “initially” injuring it three weeks prior in Arizona.Winston would return and average a 68.7-percent completion percentage in the final five games of the 2017 season. Many feel if the injury was handled differently much sooner the season could have played out differently.Season 3: His loyaltyDirk Koetter made the obvious move of hiring his friend Mike Smith to be defensive coordinator. When he did, Smith vowed during his introductory press conference that his defense would put his players in position to be successful.That clearly never happened.Koetter defended Smith to the death until he was finally left with no choice but to fire Smithfollowing their Week 6 loss to Atlanta this season. Under Smith, the defense finished 23rd in 2016 Youth Jason Pierre-Paul Jersey , 32nd in 2017, and was ranked last in points per game, passing yards per game, and red zone touchdown percentage at the time of his firing. As the offense made mistakes, they were able to overcome them and put points on the board but it was too much for Smith’s defense to overcome their own mistakes. The defensive side of the ball was more of a mixed bag. While the turnovers are nice and limited the Bengals offense, the Panthers defense still ceded 6.5 yards per play on the day. The saving grace for this defense has been the 6 takeaways and the respectable third down defense. In other words, a shade under .500 for most of the past decade. And therein lies the problem; unlike many other teams, the Dolphins have never really enjoyed any ‘glory’ type years but also haven’t endured any truly abysmal stretches, such as the Browns, Buccaneers, Jaguars, Titans and other frequent ‘doormat’ type teams in the league. I don’t want to get into the whole ‘franchise quarterback’ debate, because at any given time, only about a quarter of the teams in the National Football League have what could be considered a franchise QB. Unfortunately, those guys are hanging around longer and longer these days. Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger can’t play forever; it just seems like it right now. Lest we forget, teams have won championships without having a future Hall of Famer lining up under center. The Eagles did it just last year, although their backup QB, Nick Foles played out of his mind in the postseason for Philadelphia. Peyton Manning was a shell of his former self when the Broncos won it all on the strength of their defense a few years ago. What does matter, as far as Dolphin fans are concerned, is that without any top 5-8 draft picks on the roster, other than Tannehill, it figures to be a long slog for the Dolphins to get back to any kind of relevancy in the AFC.One of the best things that ever happened to the ‘exceptionist’ type folks here on this site was when the Dolphins traded up to select defensive end Dion Jordan in 2013. In sum, a successful season fits into one of two categories: ten wins results in an almost certain playoff berth while losing ten or more games, although humiliating, at least carries a silver lining in the form of a high draft pick the following year. To me, that’s been the problem for the Dolphins; they don’t win enough games to be able to play any games at home in the postseason, yet never consistently lose enough games to land a future star in the draft. Just imagine where this team might be today if they had taken the first, second, three thirds and a fourth rounder they spent on Parker, Landry, Stills and Carroo and simply selected the best defensive player or offensive lineman available. However, if not having enough guys who can hold the point at the line of scrimmage contributes to yet another losing season for the Dolphins, maybe it will have been worth it. He gets hammered on his first throw, but completes it to Thomas Duarte. Senorise Perry with a HUGE run is negated by an Issac Asiata hold. Asiata is trying to make the team but not helping his cause there.
